So, I am new to this spriting thing.

I would say to make it a little more detailed, by not just adding a little shadow, but by adding some different shades and maybe even a little highlight (depending on where your light source is.)

My tip for identifying light sources is the draw a little lightbulb to indicate the light source is coming from, and then go by that.
