Petrification Empty Petrification

It's pretty easy to do with a mask and this way is a little more sophisticated then just fading the saturation to drain the color.

Doing my best to make the turning to stone process as interesting as possible. It's not as dramatic as breaking out of stone; you guys have seen Gargoyles right?
I was thinking about doing something with Vaati from LoZ Minish cap turning people or things into stone.  I kinda want to do mage battles and less melee, but I can't have instant spells. It has to travel thru the air or something that an opponent can react to I think.

The stone sprite is above the normal sprite. A mask moves over the stone sprite to reveal it. Use whatever effect you want to follow the edge of the mask.

Being in the air works well because of the falling motion. But I think if I were to do this with grounded sprites, I'd break the sprite up into individual limbs that shake rabidly before turning to stone.
