First Maya animation Empty First Maya animation

5/3/2014, 11:10 am

Well, this was my first class assignment.

Everything in this animation was done by me. I made the model, rigged it, made the environment and what not. It was a challenge but it was still a lot of fun.

Granted, this animation had its limits.

The class limited me to 6 seconds, I had to make a storyboard and plan out the durations of how long something would happen. So I wasn't able to animate to my full potential since I'm not used to setting a storyboard and literally planning out each second.

The animation isn't the best there is, but my teacher complimented me on my footwork and said it's one of the smoothest she's seen a beginner do.

That's another thing I forgot to mention.

The rules for the actual animation, model and rig was very strict.

For the model, it was only a standard rig. the upper body: Arms, spine and head. All had an FK rig, while the legs and feet had IK. We weren't allowed to add finger bones or make fingers in general. We can do that on our own (they're just added steps) but for the class, they wanted to keep it simple enough so that we all wouldn't have a hard time.

The animation was also strict. No camera movement was allowed and was limited to 6 seconds. no more, no less. No sound or music either. I am actually working on another animation for myself that is longer and will hopefully be more exciting. This was just for us to get a feel for the program and learn the basics of modeling, rigging and animation.

when you said it had limits I just assumed you meant time limits since it was during class.

and now that I think about it I guess no camera is alright if their just teaching basics.

for the programs I use moving the cam makes it recalculate the lighting each angle thus increasing render time, if class was almost over it'd be a pain if it was still rendering
