Blender help Empty Blender help

on 1/24/2014, 6:17 pm
I've recently been experimenting with blender and found out how to animate sprites with it. though i have a problem with the plane transparency. can anyone please advise me on what do with the plane to get rid of the background and sharpen the sprites inside of it?

also any other tips with blender would be much appreciated

Somehow I guessed this was going to be the question before I opened the thread.
In the texture settings, near the bottom, activate alpha and make sure it's set to 1. This causes Blender to fully regard the texture's alpha channel.
Then in the material settings, activate transparency and set alpha to 0. This lowers the material's opacity to 0, but now it's doing so regarding the texture's alpha channel.
By "sharpen" I assume you mean removing the bilinear filtering. Just uncheck interpolation in the texture settings, then set the mipmap values to their lowest.

wow, thanks this works great, but this makes my somewhat see-through (not sure if you mentioned this in the previous post.) is there any way around that?

If "somewhat" is slang for what I think it is then you should probably go see a doctor.

Why are you using an avi file? No wonder it's not reading alpha correctly. There's nothing to read.

By the way.
Why is subsurface scattering on? You're not using that.
Are you using ray tracing either?
24 fps? Really? Why?
Cool buildings, but that geometry is really messed up.

oh, I read that avi files have alpha channels from a site but I guess that's wrong. the other settings you pointed out were default with blender. now i see the solution to the problem so thank you.

Avi files can have alpha channels but they have to be explicitly setup for it and use the right encoding. Use PNG sequences.

You can add sound using the VSE (Video Sequence Editor), but I don't recommend it. The idea is to use other software for putting sound together (Flash works well), then combining the rendered video and audio in the end.
You could use VSE if you're familiar with Blender enough, then you can do quite a bit more with the audio than you could with Flash, but putting it together in Blender is more tedious.
