Creating clothe movement Empty Creating clothe movement

Example Creating clothe movement 51pdn

I wanted to know how to do this, the original creator Tyler, did it in Fireworks if I'm not mistaken. I was wondering if this is possible in Flash as well. I was thinking if it'd be usable on clothes then it'd also be usable for things like water reflections, however if I'm wrong don't hesitate in correcting me. An even better example would be the Smash Mushroom Jr. Collab where Densle has constant movement of the characters clothing.
If anyone has any tips on how to do this and possible other cool things that can come from it that'd be awesome. Thanks in advance fellow Spritas.

to me it just looks like the sprites were edited or warped/distorted in that signature, something like that.

densle was using AE, so he probably used some effect to distort/wave/whatever the sprites slightly. in flash you'd probably have to do it manually.

One way that I see how to do is by how Leo states upon, warping, manually etc.
It would be much easier to do in fireworks Im sure but I did it in flash to show you
Basically what I did was, I took a sample sprite and animated the individual pixels that I wanted to give a move effect. This one is very rudimentary but if you want the effect then just spend a little more time and perfect it. IDK if this is how the guy you mentioned did it but I see it as one way of doing it
Download this fla and give it a look:

mediafire.com download/oi7gcdkpqo3zd1p/cloth+movement.fla

Edit: fla is cs3 btw, if you need to see in flash 8 I can do that also

Thats why I said it would be better to do it in fireworks, I don't like to trace bitmaps.

you can actually do that with the break apart method, its just slightly less easy.
but then again i feel it's better to do this kind of thing manually, like actually editing the sprites. idk why but i never liked the look of the kind of stuff people do when they use AE (for example), they all look fake to me

Yea its a neat effect but I wouldn't see too much use for it since most sheets have the clothes moving anyway

You keep saying manual and I'm assuming either there's a code or I literally have to learn spriting techniques and resprite what ever pose and making it look "wavy." That'd suck and take to much time, because I have absolute zero talent at spriting anything if that's the case.

about the code bit: in flash there's a displacement filter, although it seems to be a bit CPU heavy. idk though, i haven't done much research on it tbh. i wasn't talking about code though, if i were, i'd be saying automated.

honestly, for detailed sprites you'd probably better off learning how clothing works and how to draw/sprite/paint it (i mention painting too because spriting is closer to painting than drawing). that way you could do clothing that moved like actual clothing and not using some neat effect in AE or something. it would look much better imo. the only bad thing is that this takes time to learn (a long as hell time), but usually things aren't all that easy to achieve.

you can dig or ask around and eventually someone will share a cool trick, but it will be a trick. it could be a nice short-term solution, but i'd start working on the long-term one (what i just talked about in the previous paragraph), i feel it's worth it.

just my two cents

actually,it's not even that big of a deal. it WAS edited in fireworks, like moving parts of the clothes and adding pixels to blank areas, you can do that on Paint.net,or even flash.

For maple, tracing bitmap is the best way to do it because the sprites are big (at least bigger than others like kirby and sonic.) and you won't get this broken transparent thing that ruins everything.

EDIT:i rewatched densle's part,it is not similar to the gif you showed us.

the one on densle's part is actually an effect. he probaly got his hat and body separated and used the wave effect on his hat.

the one on the gif is just an edit, you can edit it on paint.net and/or flash.

I did something similar in photoshop once using the warp tool, its real easy as long as you take your time. you could even use it to make a sprite turn their head up/down/left/right(with some manual tweaking with the pencil tool afterwards if you want to be perfect)
