Parallax Test
10/28/2013, 8:12 pm
Decided to try and get parallax down. I think I've gotten the hang of it but I need some feedback.

automation is just as bad as doing it lazily@Leo wrote:

an ideal method for parallax imo is making it so the grounds/bgs/objects move at different speeds
yes this produces a very unrealistic effect but it transitions so appealingly that it honestly is just worth it

Yep. Only thing automatic is far bg. Have it set to just follow the v-cam. Also, why isn't my avatar animated?@Leo wrote:nice, no real problems imo

upload the gif to a site like imgur or whatever, then paste the direct link in the "Link to an off-site avatar" box.....@『Joshl92』 wrote:Yep. Only thing automatic is far bg. Have it set to just follow the v-cam. Also, why isn't my avatar animated?@Leo wrote:nice, no real problems imo

...but i can already do that with code?????sieghart wrote:an ideal method for parallax imo is making it so the grounds/bgs/objects move at different speeds
i think that the only thing that sucks with this automated system i use is zooming, it's really crappy, but no one ever seems to give a damn so i just stay with with anyway.

Nothing wrong with automating parallax with code. Proxicide does this, and I worked with someone on a robust parallax system once that was going to be used for NASF 2 before I opted to wait for Helix.

yes, you can. it's not that hard to do it, actually.
and do you mind giving me some info on that parallax system? if not it's ok.
honestly i thought proxicide did it by hand, but idk.@Mr Lange wrote:Nothing wrong with automating parallax with code. Proxicide does this, and I worked with someone on a robust parallax system once that was going to be used for NASF 2 before I opted to wait for Helix.

i don't actually want access to what he had, just some info on how it worked.
EDIT: watched mk vs sf 3 again, and it seems to be manual. i went thru the animation frame by frame and found out that the animation itself is one movieclip and that the parallax seems to be done manually. not sure about it, though, since i don't have access to the fla.

It was capable of parallaxing elements starting with where they were placed in Flash, scaling elements according to "distance", and accurate 3d zooming in and out of the camera. We wrapped it up in what we called the pcam. It was never finished, but it worked quite good. I'll gladly make a short video showing off what it did.

if you could share a bare-bones fla of it i'd be happy but it's alright if you don't

No I'm not releasing it. The guy I was working with on it disappeared before it was ever properly finished, so I don't want to do that with something he'd never have a say in, nor leave it in it's incomplete state for public use.
