Yeah, it's just that reading the manga i always just sort of envisioned her being blonde

Then I saw one of the manga covers with her being a brunette and was really confused

I'm sure I'll get used to it when it starts airing, but for now it just looks really weird to me for some reason

I don't think I ever imagined her as a blonde, but it seems a lot of people did. I mean, I guess i can understand, considering her personality. I just never thought of her being blonde. I imagined brunettes, but maybe that's just because I prefer them.

One Punch Man is fucking amazing. I've been reading the manga and I'm pretty hype to see the last couple episodes
I feel like I would have enjoyed OPM a lot more if it had actually just been a serious action show rather than a dumb gag comedy. Having all that amazing animation work be put towards a story that I would actually be emotionally invested in would have been incredible. As it is the show was basically five minutes of eye candy surrounded by fifteen minutes of lame jokes. Plus even the action scenes themselves aren't as exciting as they could have been if I actually cared about the outcome, and if Saitama himself didn't exist to completely destroy tension.

Like I'm not even asking for a masterpiece of emotional storytelling or anything, just something that expects me to take it seriously and actually care about its story and its characters and pulls it off half-competently would be so much more compelling than "single strike guy anti-climactically beats the bad guy in one punch, probably for some incredibly petty reason." They actually did that for the Sea King arc, where they focused mostly on the side characters rather than Saitama, and hell, those episodes were actually fairly compelling, despite being pretty flimsy as far as actual depth goes.

idk maybe if the show was at least actually funny I wouldn't care as much, but the series' one joke ("Sole attack dude underreacts to the crazy things happening around him") stopped being funny about two episodes in, and the few parts that weren't that were more along the lines of "Saitama punches Sonic in the balls" and "Pri Pri Prisoner molests people because Japan still finds gay panic stereotypes funny for some reason."

Oh wait no, they also had all those hilarious Saitama faces.

This is basically how I felt watching One Punch Man

I've only watched the first episode but I agree. I feel like the show would be really interesting if it was mainly character development driven. He's set up as a dude who's depressed and gets no fulfillment from instantly killing everything, if the show was about his journey to understand and accept that through trials and crap I'd be far more interested.

Ironically I feel the complete opposite way about Sword Art Online, another really popular anime. Couldn't give a crap about the characters wanting to bang, but the aspect of how humans would feel and adapt to being trapped in an MMO, from their sanity slowly being lost to how systems in an MMO would work in real life, would be awesome. That's why I liked the 2nd arc more with the hot sister, it talked about that, relations between clans, etc. It could have been like an adult version of Digimon's subplot of kids being trapped in the Digital World and them coping with it.

I'm not sure what you mean. Log Horizon is an anime that is basically what granny asked for. People trapped in an MMORPG and no way of getting home, so they learn to live in the game and stuff happens.

it's really good.

I don't want to talk too much about this anime, because anime is best when you start it blind in my own personal opinion, but if you want to read about it then you can go here (MAL) .

Just to give you an idea of how good it is, the anime isn't even finished airing, but it rose all the way to NUMBER 5 by the time it's 5th episode came out. It's seriously good.

Nah, new shows always end up being super highly ranked and then slowly falling after they finish airing.

ERASED is definitely a great show but tends to fall into a lot of thriller trappings. Its direction is amazing right up until something super dramatic happens and it decides to just way oversell everything it does, there are so many completely unsubtle decisions, like giving suspicious characters evil red eyes (I can figure out that the abusive mother is evil without your help, show). Like the scene where Touya watches Kayo's mother throw away all her shit and it's all like WHOOOAAA WHAT THE FUCK SHE JUST THREW AWAY THE TRASH AND SHE HAS RED EYES CAUSE SHE'S EVIL NOW SATORU'S RUNNING AWAY AND SCREAMING AREN'T YOU SHOCKED BY THIS

Not that every scene is like this, there's lots of actually emotionally effective stuff as well (the end of episode 8 was probably the best scene in the show), and ERASED is definitely a great show, but of the currently airing anime I'd place Rakugou and maybe even Grimgar ahead of it. Especially since I'm not too sure about hwo well it'll actually handle the next few episodes, Kayo & Satoru's relationship was the most compelling thing about the show and now that her situation is fixed I'm worried it'll just start leaning into more generic thriller territory from here on out

I just thought it was crazy because I don't think AoT got that high while it was airing. And yeah I definitely agree about the whole overselling a lot of the really dramatic scenes.

I'm really worried how they're gonna tie everything up in these latest episodes though. From what people who read that manga were saying, it seemed like last episode was only halfway through the manga and they've already been cutting out quite a bit just to get to where they are now.

I really hope that they extend the number of episodes they planned to air. It's not likely, but it's happened before. Otherwise, I hope they can somehow manage to pull the rest of this off without super rushing everything last minute. Also, I need more Airi in my life.

Also, what do you think about the teach being the killer? It seems way too obvious to me if they made him the killer so I think he's a red herring character for sure.

I kinda feel like it's gonna be Yuuki's dad, but they have barely every shown him except for maybe like 3 seconds so I fill that would be a pretty major cop out since that doesn't give viewers the chance to guess it's him... tho I suppose if my theory is correct then that sorta contradicts what I just said since I "technically" guessed who the killer is... Either way, show is good.

This episode was fucking stupid. I mean I still think this anime is good but I guess the way they handled that was the best way possible since introducing some rando character as the killer would probably be even more rage inducing.

The way they handled the reveal was really good tho

I don't really care that the killer was "obvious," I was never really interested in the "mystery" in the first place. Since Kayo was basically the emotional core of the show and she's gone now I was kind of expecting the last few episodes to be a step down since the show's always been at its worst when indulging in thiller theatrics, but I was hoping it could at least respectably pull together an emotionally and thematically satisfying conclusion. The killer being a random guy would have been unsatisfying, yeah, but not much more than that, since it's not like I really cared about the "mystery" in the first place. But the culprit being the teacher I felt undermined the points I felt the show was trying to make about community and trust (he served as a direct counterpoint to the show's underlying air of suspicion and distrust, showing that there are still good people and there's still value in public trust EXCEPT OH NO HE'S ACTUALLY THE KILLER OH WOW GOLLY GEE), on top of the episode just being hilariously badly written (writing tip: if you ever find yourself in a situation where you want to write "this is my true form," don't write that).

Apparently the anime actually massively cut down the ending content in order to expand on the earlier stuff, which honestly I think was very much the right chocie. It kind of made this episode worse and pretty much ensured that it won't be able to make a recovery in the last few episodes, but since that stuff probably would ahve sucked anyway I'd rather they cut that down as much as possible to improve on the actually good parts than have six okay-but-not-as good episodes followed by six not-as-terrible-but-still-bad episodes

At least Grimgar and Rakugou are still going strong

Random Topic: how do you guys feel about the the aesthetic of newer anime vs older ones? It's pretty clear which decade an anime came out in based on the style, especially now that it isn't hand drawn anymore. Do you guys have a preference or care at all?

It's the same with American cartoons for me, sometimes the newer stuff looks too crisp and clean and looks off to me since I mainly watched 90s and early 2000s stuff.

It's not something I usually care about unless the producers make it a point to make the aesthetic different/interesting.
So ones like Ping-Pong: The Animation, The Monogatari series, FLCL, Lupin the Third, etc.

This is why I LOVE watching Shaft's stuff usually cuz they usually don't go with any arbitrary art style and try to draw in a style that best fits the show (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't work due to time constraints).

On the other hand you have KyoAni, Production I.G, and now Efotable that usually set the standard for the new anime styles which I also love watching cuz the shit just looks so damn good.

Which I mean it doesn't look THAT great here since it's a GIF but you can still tell that the source is really nice looking.
