The Easytoon Thread Empty The Easytoon Thread

on 1/22/2012, 12:42 pm
So I'm posting this here since I do not know what to classify it (since there can be wips and such)

THE EASYTOON THREAD
This will be a thread about Easytoon animations.
Here you can post works in progress, finished, and unfinished animations.

I hope I'm not the only one who wants to do this.
The focus here is on speed; you can be as rough as you want, Easytoon is a program made for black and white animations (no color :<), but that lets you focus on the animation instead of technical things.
You can do these with a mouse (it doesn't have pressure sensitivity anyway), but I'm using my tablet because it's so damn fun.

And you can put in sprites too, but they have to be black and white as well.
Oh yeah, there's no layers.

If you don't have Easytoon yet, you can get it here.

And for the love of god, post your animations inside a spoiler, not everyone has a fast computer and I don't want the page to turn into a gif party.

EDIT :
I'm now separating the animations by user.

Tutorials, tips and tricks :
Bouncing ball by Leo:
So first of all let's start with the dimensions. For the example I'm going to use 240x180.

We're going to animate a bouncing ball.
This is the end result
The Easytoon Thread 0bdOV
I'll start by doing a little chart that has the info I need about the spacing and timing.

How you can do that? Simple.
Let's start with the extremes.
The Easytoon Thread LNL3j
I have drawn a little chart and the arcs. The I shaped marks are the extremes. We have 3; the 1st is the ball at the top of the arc; the 2nd is the ball in contact with the ground; and the 3rd is at the top of the other arc. I have drawn these positions on the image. If you also know anything about traditional animation, you may have noticied that the chart has a slow in (start slow; end fast) and a slow out (start fast; end slow)
Now I'm going to actually draw these out. We're still on the first frame, so press the right arrow key. You'll be on the second frame now. Draw the ball at the top of the first arc (1st extreme), press the right arrow key again to create a new frame, then draw the second extreme, create a new frame, then draw the 3rd.
You'll end up with this
The Easytoon Thread EhzeS
You can set up the onion skin to show more frames with these buttons
The Easytoon Thread NRXi6
so you can make your anim look like mine atm.

Okay, we got the extremes, now lets do the breakdowns.
Press the left arrow button until you're on this frame
The Easytoon Thread KWUGW
Now press the Insert button on your keyboard.
You've now created a frame BEFORE the frame you were. Remember this function, it's very useful.
Now draw the breakdown. If you don't know, it is drawn between the first and the second extremes. Let me show you.
The Easytoon Thread DSfWh
That is the breakdown. Remember, a breakdown goes between two extremes. Here it's stretched because it's faster at this points (the slow down goes at the top of the arcs, so the bottom of the arcs are faster)
Now go to the frame where your 3rd extreme is (press the right arrow two times if you don't know where are you), and create a frame before it. Draw a breakdown between the two last extremes.
The Easytoon Thread SOkDA
There.
Now let's start doing the inbetweens. I'm gonna add a few more inbetweens than I have drawn in the chart btw
So go to the 1st breakdown and press insert. Draw a inbetween.
The Easytoon Thread FPZLO
Now this is a tedius process (inbetweening), so keep drawing at the middle between the two other drawings you see. I'll just provide a few screenshots.
The Easytoon Thread WNm5Q
The Easytoon Thread LZPc2
Remember there's more overlap at the top.
Now let me do the other side.
The Easytoon Thread GqnTY
The Easytoon Thread Jg82j
The Easytoon Thread 2Bs7Z
If you followed the process here, you'll end up with this
The Easytoon Thread T0ZyX
Oh yeah. I almost forgot. Go to View -> Animation Properties. Then type 4 in there. It's a good solid FPS since it equals 25 FPS (good for hand drawn anims).
Now press play. A bit too fast, no?
Let me just add a few more inbetweens at the points where it falls.
The Easytoon Thread CMjbW
The Easytoon Thread FWmz6
Done? Now if you did everything correctly, you'll end up with this
The Easytoon Thread FFqrn
Great. Your first Easytoon (if this is your first animation done with it).
Wow, I'm tired.
Types of frames:
I explained it but whatever
The Easytoon Thread 8m4PD
And the definitions
Key (extreme) : An animation key frame is a single still image in an animated sequence that occurs at an important point in that sequence; key frames are defined throughout an animated sequence, in order to define pivotal points of motion before the frames in between are drawn or otherwise created to "tween" the motion between the two key frames. One example of key frames could be an animation of a swinging baseball bat; the bat at rest would be one key frame, and the bat at the end of of its swing would be another. All other frames would be "tweened" frames.

Breakdown : A breakdown is a type of in-between, but a very specific type that links two keyframes. When you draw your keyframes and begin in-betweening them, the very first in-between that marks the midpoint between Keyframe A and Keyframe B is known as a breakdown.

Inbetween : Refers to the creation of successive frames of animation between key frames.
Here's another chart. The extremes are in black, the breakdown is in red and the inbetweens are in blue.

What I like about it is the simplicity and the speed of it.
I open Easytoon, start drawing, drawing, drawing and drawing until I have an animation.

Oh yeah, new animation.

Oh and this is a topic for everyone to post their animations here, if someone didn't understand it yet. Yes, you have to post your Easytoons here.

@Timmy wrote:you can do this all in flash
No you cant. Trust me, with ET you just click and something happens, using ET is like singing beautifully in the shower and sounding like crap in front of an audience(Flash)

Tablet + ET = Frustration. Just tried it, since right click = erase, theres a lil pause after each time you touch the pen on the tablet. Then every now and then, you accidentally erase something. Just use your mouse

Weird.
I use EZT with my tablet just fine.
Thing is that I barely erase, I only do so when I'm aiming for a polished animation (and I only do this in Flash). When I erase I stop, then I get my mouse and right click on the parts I wanna erase.

If anyone has other problems animating just ask me.

Oh I almost forgot.

Patt just leave it be. Why you all have to suppress all things that aren't under 100% good reason. If leo hasn't had any reason to make this he probably hadn't made it. At least this site is alive. This isn't ordinary sprite animation so...

So? We can post our sprite animations there like we normally do. Why can' we have EA animation thread? People just have natural habit to organize everything to smaller sections. And EA animations are 1 sector of "animating" If you rly want to go your way then why don't you make 1 big thread name The spritas and post all shit there. That way we no longer need huge amount of little threads which keeps ppl busy and interested. Sounds good doesn't it?
